Our mission is to build a global, member-driven community where LGBTQ+ individuals from all backgrounds use literature and media to forge connections, expand perspectives, and create spaces that reflect their authentic selves.
We have strong, member-driven values that define who we are and how we operate.
Community-Guided
We are shaped by our members. Every voice has the power to influence our direction, whether through the content we choose, the spaces we build, or the initiatives we pursue.
Radically Inclusive
We actively seek accessibility, intersectionality, and a plurality of voices across all identities, experiences, and perspectives. Growth means continually expanding who can participate and how.
Connection Through Culture
We use literature, media, and shared cultural experiences as our primary tools for building authentic relationships and understanding across distances and differences.
The Literary Queers was founded by Ceysa McKechnie during the height of Covid lockdowns as a way to reach out to the queer community. We started as just a virtual book club, reading and chatting about a book each month. Since then, TLQ has grown into something much bigger than just a simple book club. We are now run by our Council of Queers — a group of members who have come together to support and grow our community, guide how we operate, and expand our horizons.
Today we offer a growing list of regular meetings to discuss books, movies, and other media, on online Library full of queer book suggestions, and are constantly thinking up new ways we can engage with our members across the globe.
